Modern Ranger
I staff our information desk, deflect
all questions of a thorny nature—wrecked,
a once-upon-a-heaven nearly sold.
Yet this defines a good day: mere refold-
ing of a map, the concentrated talk
directing folks to Hullabaloo Rock.
A bad day forces me to hunch behind
the PC with a bureaucratic mind,
processing action-plans and memos, buzz
a caffeine drone. My first desire was
to share the beauty of a flower made
for love; to wander straight-backed, unafraid.
My second was for a fair wage. My third,
so help me, is to reincarnate furred
or feathered, skink or skunk, that I might range.
