Grammar Blues

In a room full of independent clauses and subordinates,
words bounce around in my head
forming thoughts faster than a pinball at full tilt.
Ideas land briefly and take off
without warning to some unknown destination.
My tongue takes itself hostage
over whether to lay or lie.
My mouth can’t move as fast as sentences run on.
It closes over illogical connections
and I end up dangling comatose
over restrictive elements and choppy fragments.
My mood indicative
renders me tense, both past and present.
