Say

As a verb
say seems, if bland,
dependable.

As an adverb
say frees us
to approximate by specifying
an exact number
or to illustrate
with the oddball oddity
or to assume anything,
even, say,
that we can assume nothing.

And as an interjection,
say turns synonymous
with the imperative
of listen.
