The Harlot to the Talmudist After Moses Ibn Ezra

Why are you so busy with your books?
Here I am, but you never look at me.
What are their charms compared with mine?
Are they soft as silk, sweet as wine,
yielding, tasty, warm—a Garden of Delight?
Can loving them make men upright?

Put away your books and come to bed.
I’ll teach you what you need to know instead.
No law, justice, order in the world but this—
the parted thighs, the open eyes, the kiss.
