Questions About Bats

by Taylor Graham

Do bats, who summer in our siding,
dream inverted from the rafters
while the sun goes sliding
into afternoons and afters?
And what is it they sonar-see
in negative by full moon’s light
while we sleep away the wee
hours of a dreamless night?

Taylor Graham is a volunteer search-and-rescue dog handler in the Sierra Nevada, and also helps her husband (a retired wildlife biologist) with his field projects.   Her latest book, The Downstairs Dance Floor (Texas Review Press, 2006), won the Robert Phillips Poetry Chapbook Prize.
